Z całym szacunkiem (Pośmiertne kooperacje) [Eng. With All Due Respect (Posthumous cooperation)]

Zauważyłam, że
mam taką nieładną przypadłość, że jak już zacznę pisać, to mam ochotę się
wypowiadać na każdy temat:) Aktualnie trzymam za ogon cztery sroki. Więc o muzyce krótko.
Niedawno do sprzedaży
trafiła druga już pośmiertna płyta Michaela Jacksona ("Xscape"), która zawiera osiem niepublikowanych
wcześniej utworów z lat 1979-1991. A wczoraj w sieci pojawił się teledysk do
"nowego" utworu Michaela z Justinen Timberlakem „Love Never
Felt So Good”.
Nie jestem
zwolennikiem pośmiertnych kooperacji, choć było kilka niezgorszych (np. Aaliyah
feat. Drake „Enough Said”). Jeśli chodzi o oddanie hołdu zmarłemu Królowi Pop,
dzielenie się pozytywną energią, przypomnienie, że muzyce towarzyszy również
taniec, a nie tylko kopulacja – w porządku. Jeśli natomiast istotą tego
projektu nie jest pielęgnowanie pamięci, tylko po raz kolejny pieniądze i
rozgłos, to z niecierpliwością czekam na pośmiertny wspólny kawałek Amy
Winehouse z Whitney Houston, w którym śpiewają, że jednak trzeba było pójść na odwyk.
Być może patrzę
na to z tak dużym dystansem, bo nigdy nie byłam wielką fanką Michaela (jak z
Eminemem – znam twórczość i szanuję, ale na co dzień nie słucham), a sam kawałek
też mnie jakość specjalnie nie porwał. Na pewno nie powiedziałabym, że za nim
TĘSKNIĘ (najpopularniejszy obecnie komentarz pod tym nowym utworem na YouTube),
bo to słowo rezerwuję dla osób, rzeczy i stanów, które znam, bo pojawiły się w
moim życiu w jakimś jego momencie. A jego przecież osobiście nie znałam:) Takiej
pośmiertnej płyty nie uważam też za najlepszy sposób na zaspokojenie głodu jego
twórczości. Jeśli rzeczone osiem utworów sam artysta za życia odrzucił, to najpewniej miał
ku temu powód (może nie wydały mu się wystarczająco dobre, może ich nie lubił
albo zbyt przypominały inne jego utwory). Sterowanie jego wizerunkiem w chwili,
kiedy nie może się bronić, nie wydaje mi się do końca w porządku. W osobistym
hołdzie twórcy, zamiast polować na taśmy z piosenkami wyśpiewanymi przez niego kilkadziesiąt
lat temu pod prysznicem, nagrane przez hotelową pokojówkę, kupiłabym i
posłuchała swojej ulubionej płyty z jego dorobku. Albo wszystkich. W poczuciu,
że mówi mi na niej o sobie dokładnie tyle, ile chciałby, żebym wiedziała.
Z kolei jeśli
chodzi o następców Króla Popu, to ciężko nie przyznać, że Justin Timberlake
dorównuje mu talentem i popularnością. Może wczuł się w rolę i zgadza się przyjąć
koronę oferowaną mu przez media. A może wcale nie chciał się przechwalać tylko oddać
hołd również własnemu idolowi?
Żałuję, że sam MJ
nigdy nie miał okazji usłyszeć kawałka „D.D.” The Weeknd, którym ten
charyzmatyczny gówniarz, zanim jeszcze skończyła się żałoba i wyschły łzy po
stracie idola, przypomniał mi (weźcie poprawkę na to, że w tej kwestii daleko mi
do bezstronności), że kiedy umiera jeden król, jego miejsce musi zająć inny. I
znowu, chyli czoła w hołdzie czy zadziera nosa?
A tak na
poważnie, wydaje mi się, że w show businessie musi jednak minąć kilka dobrych
lat od odejścia prawdziwej, wielkoformatowej gwiazdy, zanim publiczność będzie
gotowa wskazać jej następcę.
Przynajmniej w
tej jednej dziedzinie potrafimy mieć i pielęgnować autorytety.

With All Due Respect (Posthumous
cooperation)
I have
noticed I have this annoying feature that once I start writing I want to express
myself on every topic. Once again I have too many irons in the fire. That’s why
today I share my view about the recent music news really briefly.
Recently, the
second posthumous album of Michael Jackson was released ("Xscape"); it contains eight hitherto
unpublished songs from the years 1979-1991. And yesterday was a premiere of music
video of a “new” song of Michael featuring Justin Timberlake titled "Love
Never Felt So Good”
Frankly, I am
not a fan of posthumous cooperation, although I know some quite fine examples (Aaliyah
feat. Drake „Enough Said”). If this is about paying a tribute to the deceased
King of Pop, sharing positive energy, reminding that music also goes together
with dancing, not only copulation – this is fine. If, however, the point of
this project is not to cherish somebody’s memory but to get money and
publicity, again, then I am impatiently looking forward to hear posthumous featuring
of Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston about how they should have gone to rehab.
Maybe I judge
it from a greater distance, because I've never been a huge fan of Michael (as
in the case of Eminem - I know his output, I respect him, but I don’t listen to
his music on an everyday basis), and I wasn't ravished by this particular song.
With no doubt I wouldn’t say that I MISS him (as the most popular comment under
this latest tune on YouTube says), because I reserve this word for people,
things and states which I know because they were present in my life at some
point, and him I didn’t know in person. I do not also find such a posthumous
album the best way to appease hunger of his creation. If he rejected the above
mentioned eight pieces when he was alive, he must have had a reason to do so
(maybe he thought they weren’t good enough; maybe he didn’t like them; or maybe
they reminded him too much of his other songs). Using his image at a time when
he can’t defend himself does not seem quite right. In a personal tribute to the
artist, rather than hunting for tapes with songs sung by him decades ago in the
shower, recorded by some hotel maid, I would buy and listen to my favorite album
of his. Or all of them. With a feeling that in these albums he tells me exactly
as much about himself as he would like me to know.
If it comes
to the heirs to the throne it’s hard to deny that Justin Timberlake is likewise
talented and popular. Maybe he feels himself into the role and agrees to accept
the crown media offer him. Yet maybe he was not bragging at all, but simply
wanted to pay homage to his own idol?
I regret that
MJ never had a chance to hear “D.D.” by The Weeknd – this devilishly talented youngster,
yet before the mourning after King’s death ended and the tears dried up,
reminded me (make allowances for my well-known impartiality in this regard) that
when a king dies, his place must be taken by another. And again, was The Weeknd
paying homage to a king or just putting on airs?
But seriously, it seems
to me that in show business it takes some time after passing away of a real star
before the public start to even consider pointing its successor.
At least in this area
we are capable of having and cherishing authorities.
